Whitburn Church of England Academy is an Outstanding Secondary School and is the lead school for Secondary School Teacher Training in the Prince Bishops Teaching School Alliance (PBTSA) Together with our strategic partners; we offer our secondary school teacher training programme across the North East. We provide a unique school based learning opportunity in partnership with Durham SCITT ( School Centred Initial Teacher Training) graded Outstanding by Ofsted.
How to apply for Secondary Teacher Training with PBTSA

Applications for initial teacher training starting in September 2020 will open on the UCAS teacher training system in October 2019
If you are thinking of applying for a train to teach place with PBTSA but you are worried about your subject knowledge, then all is not lost. If you have a degree related to the subject you wish to teach combined with an A Level at grade C or above we can still consider your application by gaining ‘subject knowledge enhancement’ ( SKE) a condition of your entry
The length of a SKE course can vary from an eight-week refresher course to 28 weeks, which will depend upon the required specialist knowledge you’ll need to teach the subject effectively.

If you are interested in training to be an RE teacher but are unsure as to whether you have an appropriate degree, we have a unique programme suited to your needs. Supported by the Hild and Bede Trust, we have developed our own SKE programme which will provide you with the core knowledge required to be a successful teacher of RE. Trainees will receive dedicated SKE sessions, based on individual needs and delivered by experienced teachers.
